Provocateur calls sale of former Roma genocide site to the Czech state a form of "antisemitism", Jewish community disagrees

Jaroslav Novák is a founder of the "Freedom and Direct Democracy" (SPD) party, a close collaborator with its chair, Tomio Okamura, and is himself the chair of the Memorial to the Shoah and Oskar Schindler Foundation, and he is alleging that by buying the pig farm on the Roma genocide site at Lety u Písku the Czech state has harmed itself. Shortly after the purchase agreement was signed he filed a criminal report with the Supreme State Prosecutor in the matter.

Slovakia-based stockholder in pig farm on Romani genocide site suing over sale to Czech Republic - twice

The court has yet to decide on a recent lawsuit filed by a shareholder in the company that owns the pig farm in Lety against its decision to sell the facility to the state, but that hasn't stopped that same shareholder from filing a separate lawsuit in the matter. Czech daily Mladá fronta DNES reports today that the shareholder in the AGPI firm, which owns the farm, is planning a separate lawsuit against the contract with the state.

Czech pop music contest says fans of xenophobic band have broken their rules

Some fans of the band Ortel, which sings lyrics disseminating hatred and xenophobia, have broken the rules of the "Czech Nightingale" (Český slavík) pop music survey, according to its organizer. When analyzing the votes cast, the organizer has come to the conclusion that the band and its leader, Tomáš Ortel, have received support this year that goes beyond the rules of fair play.

Czech sociologist: Racist online calls to gas children are unacceptable

According to sociologist Ivan Gabal it is unacceptable for Internet users to call for children to be gassed because they are of a different ethnicity, nationality or race. That is the reason he has initiated the campaign called THEY WANT TO GAS THEM, WE WANT TO SEND THEM TO SCHOOL! (ONI JE DO PLYNU. MY JE DO ŠKOL!) and together with the ROMEA organization and in collaboration with other organizations and public figures is calling for donations in support of the Romani Scholarship Program and in support of the children at the primary school in Teplice that was recently attacked online.

Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner welcomes Czech Govt purchase of pig farm on Romani genocide site

Yesterday the contract to buy out the pig farm in Lety u Písku standing on the site of the former concentration camp for Romani people at Lety was signed at the Czech Culture Ministry. Public figures from around the Czech Republic and representatives of international organizations that have followed developments in this matter have gradually begun expressing their views of this historic moment.

Romani residents of Czech town, evicted during reconstruction, cannot find landlords to rent to them

By the end of March 2018 the town of Děčín will have evicted all of the tenants residing in a building that was once a primary school. Despite the fact that the condominium apartment units are municipally-owned, the tenants are being forced to leave without being offered any replacement accommodation.

Czech Greens call on Prague Vice-Mayor to stop sharing racist video

Green Party members from the Žižkov neighborhood of Prague have published an open letter to Vice-Mayor Alexander Bellu (Civic Democratic Party - ODS) asking that he stop sharing a racist video on his Facebook page promoting his project for parking sensors for the Prague 3 Municipal Department. In the stylized video, a comedian tells a joke about "millions" of Romani people waiting near parking spaces for the opportunity to steal a car.

Czech cardinal congratulates hate-mongering party on their electoral results

The head of the Catholic Church in the Czech Republic, Cardinal Dominik Duka, has congratulated the chair of the Freedom and Direct Democracy movement (SPD), Tomio Okamura, on his party's electoral results. "Permit me to congratulate you on the outcome of the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic," Duka has written in a letter.
