Czech Republic: "Gypsy Soul" exhibition on view at Jerusalem Synagogue through August

The opening of an exhibition of photographs by Mark Wiedorn called Gypsy Soul/Romská duše was opened in Prague's Jerusalem Synagogue along with a concert of classical music inspired by Romani motifs. Both events took place on 2 June 2017 as part of the 19th annual KHAMORO World Roma Festival held by the Slovo 21 organization.

Czech Republic's 2017 Ghettofest to feature Amaro Records music stage, an Anne Frank corner, and readings in a former prison

The multi-genre street fair known as the Ghettofest annually opens up the locality around Brno's Bratislavská and Cejl streets - this year it is changing its usual backdrop, thanks to the closure of Francouzská Street, and is offering its program at the Hvězdička Park, in the spaces of a former prison, and at the Museum of Romani Culture. The sixth annual Ghettofest will take place in those locations on Saturday, 10 June.

Czech campground owner cancels reservations after learning hundreds of neo-Nazis from all over Europe to hold festival there

This coming weekend, 9-10 June, an international event called the "Bohemia Excalibur Night" was scheduled to take place in Chotěvice (Trutnov district) featuring openly neo-Nazi bands performing at a car campground usually reserved for children's summer camps, an event allowed by the local town assembly, whose members allegedly had no idea of its nature. The Antifa.cz news server first informed the public of the situation, following up their initial reports yesterday with the news that thanks to pressure from the media and the public, the owner of the campground has canceled the reservations.

Finland investigating racist commentaries shared on Facebook by police officers

Police officers in Finland may face criminal prosecution over racist commentaries about immigrants that they posted to a closed Facebook group after the Finnish investigative news server Long Play discovered the commentaries and reported on them. Czech news server denik.cz cites the BBC as reporting that the Finnish National Police Council has submitted material to the prosecutor on the issue.

Czech Gov't says it will not receive any more migrants on basis of EU quotas

The Czech Republic will not be receiving any more migrants from the reception centers in Greece and Italy on the basis of the EU's redistribution quotas because it believes the quota system is dysfunctional and is making that decision on the basis of the deteriorating security situation. Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec (Czech Social Democratic Party - ČSSD) announced the news to journalists yesterday after the cabinet session.
