| Czech Romani activist debates central misdemeanor registry, prosecution of Tanvald shooting Prague, 3.2.2012, 22:10, (ROMEA)Yesterday evening's edition of the Czech Television Program "Máte slovo" ("You Have the Floor") discussed sentencing for petty crimes. Those participating in the debate included Czech Justice Minister Jiří Pospíšil and the chair of the Romani Association of Moravia, (Společenství Romů na Moravě), Karel Holomek. There was general agreement among the debaters about the usefulness of establishing a Central Misdemeanor Registry.

Yesterday Schwarzenberg told Czech PM Petr Nečas that refusing to sign the European Union's pact on fiscal responsibility would damage the Czech Republic's interests, and alleged the PM was "causing tension to show what a big champion he is." The main opponent of the pact and of greater EU integration in general, Czech President Václav Klaus, took exception to the Foreign Minister's remarks, saying he should not have chosen such harsh language. To make matters worse, while Nečas was attending complicated negotiations in Brussels, Schwarzenberg made a statement on the "Fakta Barbory Tachecí" program which Klaus believes has harmed the country's reputation.

Czech Republic: DSSS member arrested for promoting a movement to suppress human rights Kladno, 4.2.2012, 00:12, (ROMEA) Yesterday police officers arrested and charged Michaela Dupová, a member of the Workers' Social Justice Party (Dělnická strana sociální spravedlnosti - DSSS) and a former leader of the neo-Nazi group Resistance Women Unity, for wearing tattoos of banned extremist symbols. She faces up to three years in prison for promoting and supporting a movement aimed at suppressing human rights and freedoms. The court will decide whether she should be remanded into custody.

For active debts calculated in excess of CZK 101 million, the town has received only CZK 1.3 million. The vast majority of the debt is comprised of back rents owed by tenants at the troubled Chanov housing estate. The town leadership believes the company it owns will be more successful at collecting on the debt than the town hall has been.

The daughter of the family who was severely burned in that attack, Natálka, is already learning to communicate with her peers at nursery school. Since the start of January she has been attending a nursery school for a few hours each day in the village to which her family moved after the attack. "The main reason we are ending the collaboration in Duchcov is the fact that all 10 of the main planned measures to support social inclusion were rejected at the town councilors' November meeting. That de facto makes it impossible for the Agency to perform any meaningful activity there," Agency director Martin Šimáček explained.

The man was found in the restroom with a stab wound to the abdomen. Witnesses said he claimed to have been assaulted by two Romani men. He was hospitalized in Česká Lípa and had to undergo surgery, Now he has confessed to police that he made up the entire story and injured himself. Regional Police spokesperson Vlasta Suchánková reported the information today.
full story | Czech Republic: 300 people attend anti-Romani gathering convened by ultra-right extremists Varnsdorf, 29.1.2012, 23:11, (ROMEA) Today's anti-Romani march in Varnsdorf passed provocatively by the Sport residential hotel twice today, which houses Romani tenants. Local ethnic Czechs have labeled it as one of the most trouble-making spots in the town. Demonstrators from the ranks of the ultra-right extremist DSSS party carried banners and flags reading, for example "Stop Black Racism" ("Stop černému rasismu"). Nationalist slogans such as "Nothing but the nation" ("Nic než národ") and "Bohemia for the Czechs", ("Čechy Čechům") were chanted, as was the slogan "Gypsies to work" ("Cikáni do práce").

In the Czech Republic, the ROMEA civic association is responsible for the project.
