Romani amateur theater group from Slovakia pokes fun at the cult of youth

Czech Republic: Discussion on Romani characters in literature part of the KHAMORO festival

3.6.2017 10:43 As part of the KHAMORO World Roma Festival this week in Prague, yet another part of the "Gavoro" side program took place on Tuesday evening at the Václav Havel Library, dedicated to Romanes-language literature and other issues. Non-Romani and Romani authors Jáchym Topol, Kateřina Sidonová, Jana Hejkrlíková and Ilona Ferková debated the literary depiction of Romani characters.  full story

Czech Republic: 6th annual Ghettofest in Brno to feature Romani recording studio Amaro Records

15.5.2017 10:10 The Ghettofest street festival, with its programmatic effort to bring people together irrespective of their differences, to cut through prejudices, and to open up the locality around Cejl Street in Brno, has become a harbinger of summer. This year the festival will have a different appearance - due to the closure of Francouzská Street, it will take place predominantly in the Hvězdička Park, in the spaces of a former prison, and at the Museum of Romani Culture.  full story

American and Canadian embassies in Prague display Romani flag for International Romani Day

8.4.2017 8:02 The Ambassador of Canada to the Czech Republic, Barbara Richardson, put up the Romani flag yesterday afternoon at the embassy. "On April 8, International Romani Day is celebrated all around the world. Ambassador Richardson supports this international day and is happy to display the Romani flag here at the Embassy! International Romani Day celebrates Romani culture and raises awareness of the economic and social issues facing Romani people. There are approximately 250,000-300,000 Roma in the Czech Republic. Canada recognizes the importance of promoting understanding between Roma and non-Roma people and Roma integration in the Czech Republic. For Canada, inclusion and diversity are part of our fabric and a source of openness, acceptance, progress and prosperity," the embassy's Facebook profile reads.  full story

European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture: Building the Future by Honoring the Past

8.4.2016 9:43 The European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) is a joint initiative of the Alliance for the European Roma Institute*, the Council of Europe and the Open Society Foundations. Following the approval of the establishment of ERIAC by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in September 2015, preparations are in progress for the creation of the Institute. Based on the proposal of the Alliance for the European Roma Institute, the German Government endorsed the idea of inviting the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture to set up in Berlin.
