15.6.2018 11:34 Several dozen people demonstrated yesterday evening in the Czech town of Ústí nad Labem, where the planned closure of two residential hotels, according to demonstrators, will lead to their impoverished tenants, many of whom are Romani, having to move beyond the city limits. Museum of Romani Culture and the Romani Studies Seminar at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University is convening the third in its series of public debates on the occasion of the state purchasing the grounds of the pig farm at Lety u Písku that overlapped with the site of a former concentration camp. The panel discussion, called "Holocaust of the Roma: Contemporary Research in Czechoslovak Context" begins at 18:00 in a unique venue, Kampus Hybernská, a joint project of the City of Prague and the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.  full story

VIDEO: Commemorative ceremony at Lety u Písku and tour of the former pig farm

14.5.2018 12:59 The commemorative ceremony honoring the Romani victims of the Holocaust at Lety took place yesterday after the recent closure of the pig farm that overlapped with the former concentration camp site. The newly-adapted remembrance site is scheduled to be presented by the Museum of Romani Culture to the public within three years.

17.3.2018 22:07 Today at 13:00 in Prague there was a demonstration against doubting the Holocaust and its Romani victims, against racism, and against violence that was attended by several dozen Romani people and other opponents of the dissemination of hatred. In addition to speeches, the names of the victims of racial violence in the Czech Republic were read and the Romani anthem was sung by the Bengas band.  full story

Czech capital sees public discussion on future form and role of the Lety memorial to the genocide of Roma

3.3.2018 8:51 The Lety memorial to the Holocaust of the Roma could include a replica of an original barracks, a tree-lined avenue, or a burial mound with a cross - and one of the buildings from the pig farm that was built there after the Second World War might also be left standing. Those are just some of the ideas discussed yesterday during a public discussion about the possible future form and role of the Lety u Písku Memorial, called "Restoring Dignity to the Remembrance Site at Lety u Písku".  full story
