Czech police accuse extremists detained at weekend demonstration
The Czech police have accused two extremists detained during an ultra-right wingers’ demonstration in Vlasim on Saturday, local police spokeswoman Sona Budska told CTK today.
They will be prosecuted without being taken into custody, she said.
The police intervened against the demonstrators from the National Corporativism movement when several of them showed intention to attack a group of young standers-by, probably anarchists.
The police detained three right-wingers. One of them, however, was brought to a police station to give an explanation only, and he does not face prosecution.
The two accused men are aged 21 and 25.
The Vlasim town hall did not ban the demonstration, aimed against the alleged swelling criminal activities of local Romanies, as the organisers had properly announced it beforehand.
Activists from the Tolerance and Civic Society association have criticised the town hall’s decision. They said the municipality should have banned the demonstration beforehand or dissolve it immediately on the spot.
Vlasim Mayor Ludek Jenista asserts that there was no legal reason to do so.
