Jihlava, Czech Republic flies the Romani flag in honor of World Roma Day

Today the Romani flag is flying at the Jihlava town hall for World Roma Day. Romani people who work for the local police as crime prevention assistants and staff with the Jihlava branch of Caritas hoisted the flag.
The first time a Romani flag was flown in Jihlava was from the window of the mayor's office three years ago. The town council decides which flags to fly on the town hall.
On Friday, 8 April 2022, Romani people worldwide celebrate World Roma Day. This year marks 51 years since the important day when the historically first World Roma Congress was held near London, England in Orpington in 1971.
That congress laid the foundations for international cooperation among Romani people and the Romani movement achieved an international, politico-social dimenstion. On 8 April Romani people annually celebrate their common cooperation, culture, language, origin, unity and above all, their Romipen ("Romani-ness").
