Young people in the Czech Republic who are unable to find work now have a chance to acquire experience that will aid them on the labor market, and 12 will get the opportunity to spend an eight-week professional study visit in either Scotland or Spain. Youths between the ages of 15 and 30 who are seeking employment or who are otherwise economically inactive are eligible.

Applications will be accepted during August and September, after which time the participants will be chosen, counseled and diagnosed during October, and then sent to a course during November and December to acquire crucial competencies as well as language preparation. Before beginning their study visit, those participating will choose either English or Spanish; a Czech mentor will be available to them throughout the study visit as well.

In addition to the language course, participants will undergo multicultural training and receive detailed information about the organization of the trip. Their accommodation, food allowance and plane tickets will all be covered by the program.

“Those chosen will receive confirmation that they have completed these courses, but above all they will acquire new amusements, experiences and friends. They can improve their language skills, their labor market position and apparently even get a better job when they’re done,” says Mgr. Martina Hrejsemnou, the program mentor for the South Moravian Region.

“We offer our support to participants the entire time and a Czech mentor will be available to them abroad,” she says. The project aims to increase international mobility within the EU and involves education, motivational activities, a study abroad trip for the target group, counseling, and intensive support with either entering the labor market, continuing education or professional training after returning to the Czech Republic.

The project is organized by the Center for Community Work in North Moravia, which is also administering applications from the Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc Regions. Project partner DROM-Romani Center is arranging coordination work in the South Moravian Region.

“The aim of this project is to aid unemployed youth with finding jobs they like, it means a new beginning for their working lives,” Hrejsemnou says. More information is available on the Facebook pages and websites of the Center for Community Work and DROM.
